A faux pas. Perhaps it was cool in the late 80s or early 90s to wear a jean jacket with jeans, but now the denim “suit” shows a reliance - a dependency - on that denim-y casual feeling.
Project casual with a hoodie (like he did) and trainers. Try a corduroy jacket if need be. Something in brown.
